Music Ministries

 Gospel Choir

 

The Torchbearer Gospel Choir (Age 21 and above) is the adult music ministry.  The choir’s mission is to allow our Lord and Savior to bless it and use their vocal talents to help others to experience the wonderful love of Jesus and to make a life-changing decision based upon their new found relationship.

The Male Chorus music ministry is open to any young man or adult male.  It provides a positive avenue where they can be a role model to other young men of the church and community.  Besides their providing their song ministry at the church, they are actively involved in other ministries of the church as a way of showing their diversity in ministry.

 Youth Choir Ministry

 

The Youth Choir ministry (Ages 13 – 20) is an opportunity for the youth of our church who enjoy singing and music to take an active part in the worship celebration.  This allows them the chance to feel as if they are an integral part of the church congregation.  Their music is more contemporary and allows them the expression of their praise.

Pre-Junior Choir

 

The Pre Junior Choir (children up to 12 years old) gives children the opportunity to serve their church by giving them a chance to minister to others through music.  They learn how to take a leadership role in service while giving them a sense of responsibility for and commitment to the ministry as they grow up by helping them to build Christian character.

Performing Arts Ministries

 Drama Ministry

 

 

Sometimes a theatrical presentation is just the thing to bring home a message that the pastor has been preaching.  The Drama Ministry provides creative venues through which to spread the message of Salvation.  Their two largest productions are usually done during the Easter and Christmas seasons.

 Praise Dance Ministry

 

The gift of interpretive dance has been long rendered from the camps of the Old Testament to present day.  Psalm says “Praise Him with the timbrel and dance…”   There are several different groups doing interpretive dance at special events and during some morning worship services.   They are called (a) The GSL Disciples of Praise (DOP); (b) The GSL Spiritual Steppers; (c) A.S.O.P.—Anointed Sisters of Praise, and (d) our Step Team.

Youth Ministries

Youth Ministry

 

The Youth Ministry’s mission is to help each and every young person grown personally and spiritually.  Its goal is to help prepare young people for an effective ministry to their peers in school and their community while being a positive role model that will lead others to Christ.  While doing this, they grow in their love for Christ and the mission of soul saving.

 Usher Board Youth Ministry

 

The Youth Usher Ministry’s goal is to seat the worshippers in a courteous manner while acknowledging our visitors.  They also assist with the offering and tend to whatever needs are required by the congregation while at the same time showing a hospitable, caring, warm-spirited, attitude while rendering their service. They set the example that there is always something for young people to do in church.

 Boy Scout Troop #117

 

Troop #117 is an active church troop consisting of approximately 15 young men.  Of a historical significance, it is the first black church-sponsored boy scout troop in the area.  They participate in the local Boy Scout events as well as perform service work for the community.  The troop is open for young boys (Cub Scouts) to the older boys (Boy Scouts).

Girl Scout Troop #359

 

Troop #359 is an active Girl Scout troop open to girls of all ages.  The young ladies participate in community events and charitable events.  They also take the initiative to collect clothing and foods items for the local service agencies during the holidays.  Their biggest project is the always anticipated Girl Scout cookie sales.

Outreach Ministries

 Home Visitation Ministry

 

When someone is homebound or hospitalized due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, it is always nice to see friendly face.  The Home Visitation Ministry brings a word of encouragement, a smiling face, and a listening ear each week. This team consists of missionaries, ministers, and evangelists who are ready to be of service to those in need.

The Missionary Ministry ministers to those who are sick, misfortunate, or in need of spiritual or physical needs.  They work in harmony and unity to accomplish the church’s Mission.  No member is above the other.  Their communication is to the pastor of which they report on a weekly or as needed basis.

 Meals to the Home Ministry

 

The Meals to the Home Ministry is an extension of the Missionary Ministry. Each week hot meals are delivered to the sick and elderly in the community.  The Meals to the Home Ministry assures that those on their delivery list receive a hot meal based on their nutritional requirements.

 Children's Care Center Ministry

 

In order for worshippers to have an enjoyable worship experience, they can take their child (newborn up to age 4) to the center.  There’s a very capable and loving staff ready to keep a watchful eye on the children.  They’ll surround each child with fun-fill learning activities.

 Christian Health Ministry

 

The purpose of the Christian Health Organization is to help promote good physical health so that the GSL Family can continue its spiritual health. Monthly glucose and blood pressure checks are held.  There is a highly competent licensed staff of medical personnel who comprise the C.H.O. as well as other GSL Members who are skilled in rendering medical aide when and where necessary.

The Environmental Services team is on site each week to assure the facility is ready for the worship celebration and other ministry needs.  This team assures that the facility meets the standards of cleanliness necessary to accommodate the public.

 Culinary Ministry

 

Whenever there is a special event requiring the preparation of food, there is a hospitality ministry on hand to assure that everything is in place from the cooking to the serving.   This staff consists of a dietitian, professional cook, and other food service personnel who will make sure an enjoyable and delicious meal is prepared according to the event criteria.

Audio and video recordings of the various services and programs are provided by this ministry.   Audio and DVD recordings are available free of charge to the sick and shut-in.  The director of this ministry is a skilled photographer who assures that photographic records are made of special events and worship celebrations.

Mother's Board

 

The Mother's Board Ministry provides spiritual inspiration and guidance to the young women within the congregation.  This group is comprised of women who have served God through years of service.  These seasoned ladies are usually widows or wives of the Deacons and Ministers.  Their wisdom comes from their many years of tests and trials.  They share their knowledge as wise counsel to the congregation and as role models to the younger women of the church.

 Pastor's Aide

 

This organization is the principal supporter to the pastor.  Its function is to do fundraising events to help with the pastor’s operating expense.  They coordinate his appreciation weekend as well as sponsor other events for the sole purpose of the comfort of the pastor.

 Scholarship Ministry

 

Any high school graduate who is a member of Greater St. Luke and has enrolled in college is eligible for consideration as a recipient of the scholarship fund.  Each year, a banquet is held each in their honor to showcase their academic accomplishments.  This fund is not open to non-GSL members.   Its purpose is to express the church’s pride for the academic accomplishments of its young people.

A van fleet is available to transport worshippers to our worship celebration or Wednesday night activities.   The vans are also available for other ministry needs as deemed necessary by the transportation director.

The Adult Usher Ministry’s goal is to seat the worshippers in a courteous manner while acknowledging our visitors.  They also assist with the offering and tend to whatever needs are required by the congregation while at the same time showing a hospitable, caring, warm-spirited, attitude while rendering their service.   They actively participate in the local usher union as well as the church’s district and state convention activities.
